(c.1588-c.1668)
Marrano physician and author. He was born in Lisbon, and became a physician there. Later he settled in Rome, where he came under the influence of Galileo. During the 1630s he went to Hamburg. Emperor Ferdinand III bestowed the title of Count Palatine on him in recognition of his scientific achievements. Later he lived as a Jew in Lovorno, assuming the name Jacob Hebraeus. He published works on medicine and astronomy.
